Lyrics
Intro - Female soft singing, solo piano
In the beginning... God made it good. A garden full of life, And humanity walked with Him.
Male - Deep spoken
But the story didn't end in Eden.
Verse 1 - Male, intimate rhythmic storytelling
Genesis chapter two, a garden filled with life, A river flowing outward, everything designed just right. The tree of life was growing, and the Lord had given place, For humanity to live within the goodness of His grace. But chapter three describes the fall, the choice to disobey, The ground received a curse, and death entered the human way. They left behind the garden, and the entrance was secured, The way back to the tree of life was guarded by the Lord.
Male - Melodic singing
What had started in communion Now was shadowed by the fall. But the God who made creation Hadn't finished with it all.
Chorus - Male and female soulful duet, warm brass enters
The end was in the beginning, The story's coming home. What was lost within the garden, God will make His own. There's a river, there's a tree, There's a promise of eternity. From the first page to the last, His love will hold us fast.
Verse 2 - Male, rhythmic melody, steady drums
Isaiah sixty-five, hear the prophet's hope, A new heavens and a new earth, a future God would show. No more sorrow as before, a promise of renewal, A world transformed by righteousness beneath the Lord's own rule. Then John receives a vision, Revelation twenty-one, A new creation coming, the former things are gone. The holy city coming down, God dwelling with His own, Not a people left abandoned, but the Lord makes them His home.
Male - Soulful melodic lift
And He will wipe away their tears, No death to steal another day. The One who sits upon the throne Declares He's making all things new.
Chorus - Duet, brighter horns, layered harmonies
The end was in the beginning, The story's coming home. What was lost within the garden, God will make His own. There's a river, there's a tree, There's a promise of eternity. From the first page to the last, His love will hold us fast.
Verse 3 - Female, confident soulful storytelling
Revelation twenty-two, now look what John can see, A river from the throne of God, and there the living tree. Its fruit through every season, its leaves to heal the nations, And no more curse upon the land, a healed and holy creation. In Genesis the way was closed, the tree beyond their reach, But now the servants see His face, the Lord their light will be. The Lamb is on the throne of God, His people gathered near, No night to fall upon them, no lasting death or fear.

Genesis two and three. Isaiah sixty-five. Revelation twenty-one and twenty-two. One beginning. One unfolding story. And a promise of restoration.
Female - Soft melodic
Behold... He makes all things new.
Reading the connection
Genesis 2-3 describes the tree of life and human exclusion from it after disobedience. Isaiah 65:17 speaks new heavens and a new earth within restoration hope.
Revelation 21-22 presents a transformed final vision, with the tree beside the river and healing for the nations. This is a canonical imagery echo, not a direct quotation of Genesis or a simple return to Eden without transformation.
Passage notes
Thematic echo
Revelation reuses Eden’s river and tree imagery in a renewed city. Isaiah 65:17-25 belongs to restoration hope and still mentions death; Revelation 21:4 explicitly removes death, so the pictures are not identical.
Discussion questions
- What is lost in Genesis 3 and restored in Revelation 22?
- How does Revelation 21:4 extend beyond the imagery of Isaiah 65:17-25?
- How can the promise of God dwelling with His people shape care for suffering people today?

Thematic echo
The tree of life restored
The tree guarded after human disobedience reappears in Revelation's transformed final vision for the healing of the nations. A canonical imagery echo, not a formal Genesis quotation.
