Lyrics

Intro - Deep male spoken, Rhodes and muted trombone

Joshua was told to be courageous. Ezra set his heart on the Scriptures. Paul told Timothy to handle truth with care. Different generations... The same responsibility.

Verse 1 - Deep male, confident rhythmic storytelling

Joshua chapter one, Moses' days were through, A nation stood before the land, a calling to pursue. God said, "Be strong and courageous," but listen to the rest, Obey the law He'd given, don't turn right or left. Meditate upon it, let it fill your day and night, Not just words to memorize, but instructions for your life. The Lord would go before him, he was never left alone, And courage came with faithfulness to everything God had shown.

Male - Smooth melodic lift

It's more than being fearless, More than standing tall. Real courage follows what God says, Even when the road gets hard.

Chorus - Soulful male tenor, full beat drops, rich male harmonies

Stand on the Word, let it stand in you, When the world gets loud, let His wisdom carry through. Study with your mind, believe it in your soul, Walk it with your feet, let the truth take hold. Oh, stand on the Word, let your life testify, Strong enough to stand, humble enough to get it right. Don't just know what the pages say, Let the truth of God reshape your ways.

Verse 2 - Male baritone, rhythmic flow, funky bass and horn replies

Ezra chapter seven, now the picture grows, He set his heart to study what the Lord had made known. But he didn't stop at learning, he practiced what he read, Then taught the people faithfully the words that God had said. Now Second Timothy, Paul's writing to his friend, Be a worker God approves, handle truth without a bend. Don't get lost in empty arguments that only lead astray, And don't twist the resurrection like the false teachers of that day.

Male - Melodic singing, organ swells

A clever tongue can win a crowd, And still lead people wrong. So learn the truth before you teach, Let God's Word keep you strong.

Chorus - Soulful male tenor, layered harmonies, lively brass

Stand on the Word, let it stand in you, When the world gets loud, let His wisdom carry through. Study with your mind, believe it in your soul, Walk it with your feet, let the truth take hold. Oh, stand on the Word, let your life testify, Strong enough to stand, humble enough to get it right. Don't just know what the pages say, Let the truth of God reshape your ways.

Verse 3 - Male baritone, confident melodic delivery

First Corinthians sixteen, Paul's instruction comes, Be watchful, stand firm, be courageous, be strong. But don't forget verse fourteen, it completes what he began, Let everything be done in love, that's part of God's command. And Timothy was told to teach with patience and with care, Correcting those who disagree, not fighting everywhere. There's no honor in a victory where kindness disappears, Or speaking truth so carelessly you leave somebody in tears.

Male - Fully sung, soulful conviction

So let your strength be measured By the character you show. If the truth is living in you, Then let the fruit of kindness grow.

Oh, stand on the Word, let your life testify, Strong enough to stand, humble enough to get it right. Don't just know what the pages say, Let the truth of God reshape your ways.

Joshua one... Ezra seven... Second Timothy two... First Corinthians sixteen... Study it. Live it. Teach it. Stand firm in love.

Reading the connection

Joshua 1:7-9 is God's charge to Israel's new leader. Ezra 7:10 describes Ezra studying, doing and teaching the Law in his own historical setting.

Second Timothy 2:15 calls for faithful handling of truth; 1 Corinthians 16:13-14 calls for steadfastness shaped by love. These passages share themes, not a direct Pauline quotation of Joshua. Second Timothy is traditionally attributed to Paul; authorship and dating are debated.

Discussion questions

  1. How does Joshua 1 connect courage with obedience and meditation?
  2. What sequence of study, practice and teaching appears in Ezra 7:10?
  3. How do 1 Corinthians 16:14 and 2 Timothy 2:24-26 shape correction of others?

Scripture connections

Thematic echo

Courage and fidelity to God's word

Old Testament: Joshua 1:7-9
New Testament: 1 Corinthians 16:13-14

Joshua receives a charge to lead Israel under the Law. Paul calls Corinth to stand firm with everything done in love. These are thematic parallels, not Paul quoting Joshua or transferring every promise unchanged.
